Frequently Asked Questions

We think the hourly billing model is outdated – it does a disservice both to clients and attorneys. Our firm operates on a 100% flat-fee model. To see our fees and plan your budget, please visit our Fees & Expenses page.

Yes! Our  trademark services are available to clients in all 50 states.

We primarily help clients with legal transactions – such as filing intellectual property registrations and negotiating contracts. However, we only handle dispute resolution matters (such as intellectual property enforcement) on a limited basis.

We do not offer free consultations. The purpose of a consultation is to scope out a potential strategy to resolve your legal issues and provide you with preliminary legal advice.

However, we do offer free legal information through our social media.

Legal information refers to information about the law and legal systems, generally. You can typically get legal information online (through blogs, podcasts, and the like), through seminars and courses, or through brief conversations with attorneys. Legal information is meant to help you understand legal concepts better, but it is no substitute for legal advice; so if you rely on legal information to resolve a legal issue you’re having, you do so at your own risk. Sometimes legal information is free, and sometimes you have to pay for it.

Legal advice refers to the application of the law to specific factual scenarios. Legal advice should only be given within the context of an attorney-client relationship or in anticipation of  forming an attorney-client relationship. You typically have to pay for legal advice.

We occasionally offer pro bono services to clients that are referred to us by legal services organizations. These organizations vet pro bono assistance requests and confirm that applicants are financially eligible to receive free legal services. We are not able to offer pro bono services to potential clients who contact us directly.

If you require pro bono services and are located in New York City, we recommend contacting the following organizations:

The Attorney

Faith Mitton, Esq.

managing attorney

Faith’s mission is to demystify legal concepts for entrepreneurs in a relatable way  because running a business is stressful enough without dealing with confusing legal issues. But the traditional corporate law environment didn’t really suit her down-to-earth personality. So she founded Mitton Law Firm PLLC to create her own fabulous table, instead of waiting for someone to offer her a seat at theirs. Although she takes an unorthodox approach to law practice, she ensures that every Mitton Law client receives a white glove, concierge experience – catering to their legal needs with careful attention and refined sophistication. Faith is an alumna of Howard University, a graduate of Harvard Law School, and a member of the New York State Bar. She manages a team of legal and administrative professionals to support her clients in protecting their intellectual property.

Why Choose Mitton Law?

Figuring out which attorney to hire can be challenging when there are so many options. Here are some things to consider when evaluating whether to work with us. Our clients have chosen us because of our:

Few things are worse for clients than having a lawyer who they don’t understand. When we communicate with or create a work product for our clients, we aim to be as clear and thorough as possible so that we leave no questions unanswered.

Budgeting for legal services can be a challenge when you work with an attorney who only bills hourly. It’s almost impossible to determine how much a particular project will cost you. But we prioritize the use of flat fees so that our clients know exactly what to expect in terms of costs.

Even with flat fees, we know that high-quality legal representation may seem inaccessible to some clients with restricted budgets. We understand cash flow challenges & offer flexible payment plans that allow our clients to break up the payment of fees into manageable chunks that work for them.

Our clients are trailblazers, charting their own course through new terrain. We provide innovative solutions to their legal issues & inventive strategies for their operations. Plus, we’re always seeking new ways to practice law & help our clients.

In the DIY legal age, it can be hard to know who to trust. But instead of working with some faceless corporation,  our clients know exactly who their attorney is & what her credentials are, so they can be confident that they are receiving the best possible legal representation.

Gone are the days when you had to meet your attorney in person & exchange paper documents. We believe in using industry-leading technology to create a seamless client experience. Our clients can communicate with us confidentially & access their case file from any Internet-connected device through our client portal.
